80’s Makeover of Firefly’s Intro Credits

Me and my wife have had a love-hate relationship with the intro to Firefly. While we both felt that it kinda grows on you over time, we both felt that it didn’t do the series justice. So that’s why this version grabbed my interest so much…

What do you think? How does it compare to the original?

Take my love, take my land
Take me where I cannot stand
I don’t care, I’m still free
You can’t take the sky from me
Take me out to the black
Tell them I ain’t comin’ back
Burn the land and boil the sea
You can’t take the sky from me
There’s no place I can be
Since I found Serenity
But you can’t take the sky from me…

  1. You're right uhclem, I should give the originals their due, for being one of those catchy tunes that get stuck in your head.

  3. That remake almost steps on sacred grounds.

I must say that I loved the original intro, even though it wasn't 100% perfect it was still good.

  5. OW! MY EARS!!!!

Original is brilliant; yeah, it's not perfect, but it sets the scene nicely. The remake has about as much subtlty as Jayne in comparison, and is a lot harder to sing along to. Far less catchy.

  8. The remake isn't bad but the original is so much better. It captures the essence of the show and gets you ready to enjoy a western.

  10. I like both, though the music in the new one is a bit much. The original song fits the tone of the show too well to replace it. Thought some of the scenes picked for the new one show the personality of the crew better.

  12. 80's intros were always terrible. Plus the original just fit the show so well in my opinion, can't beat it.

  14. Seriously, what happened to Simon? The Doc who pretty much saved everyone's life isn't important anymore?

  16. I think the original was poetic and did justice to the show and fit in nicely with the plot of the rebels versus the government. Also it is just a catchy and addictive tune.

  18. This atrocity caught your attention? It's got crappy, dated music that doesn't fit the overall mood of the show, and for some reason Sean Maher doesn't get a credit. FAIL.

  20. Hah! That was fantastic!

To everyone else: It was done 80s-style like this for a laugh (and boy did it get me!); of course the original is the better one, but that wasn't the point.

  22. Yeah, that was a totally 80s version. But I still love the original. The original is beautiful and poignant.
