  1. Eek! The first Linux mistake listed isn't a mistake. The reasoning the person gives is total bunk. Checkinstall won't get updates for that version of the software if you're installing software that's not in the repositories or is newer than the repository version (and if it's not, then why aren't you using the repositories???). People try to use the debs generated on other systems, and then things break because checkinstall isn't the right way to make packages.
