The Hubble Ultra Deep Field in 3D

An amazing video about the Hubble Deep Field, ending with a flythrough of its representation in 3D, rendered using the measured redshift of the picture. Even though the camera seems to be slowly drifting among the galaxies, it belies the fact that the viewpoint is hurtling through the universe at a speed of around 200 million light years per second.

  1. A little weaker than some of his other posts. This piece not only fails to answer the question, it overlooks some obvious answers to its questions. e.g. Why would a civilization spend a thousand years crossing empty space if it doesn't see any value in it? And what if all civilizations eventually collapse as some evidence suggests? We've had space flight for 50 years, that's not much out of 4/5 billion.
