“Thanks Sheila for that stunning news report on Garfield the cat’s announcement that he will run for president in 2008 on a platform of more lasagna for working-class cats…..and now over to Mark with the movie news”
Thanks Chuck. EON productions have announced the title of the next James Bond movie, due out in November, to be “Quantum of Solace”.
Despite it sounding like the title of an unreleased Harry Potter book, “Quantum of Solace” is actually the title of a real James Bond short story by Ian Fleming. It was part of a five-part collection of stories under the cover title, “For Your Eyes Only” and was first published in 1960.
This goes to show that EON is determined to continue to go back to Bond’s roots to make the franchise more relevant and popular again, in the face of overwhelming competition from spy movies such as the Bourne franchise.
But despite basing the movie on a Fleming book, it looks as if they won’t be following the plot of the book (gasp! now there’s a complete shocker). The original book plot does not involve spies and Bond is only a background character. However, the movie has been described as a sequel to Casino Royale in which Bond is determined to get revenge for the death of his girlfriend, Vesper Lynd. Cue much shooting, blood and explosions – all in Her Majesty’s Service of course!
