Over the last decade, Moscow has had explosive growth. Now the Russian Capital will soon have the world’s largest building by 2013. Designer Sir Norman Foster has planned a 27 million square foot, $4B (USD) structure that will be 1500 feet tall. Dubbed “Crystal Island,” it will feature 900 apartments, 3000 hotel rooms, a theatre, sports complex, an international school and more.

The exterior facade of the tower will be covered with solar panels and wind turbines, which will help provide electricity for the structure. Here’s a concept picture of the behemoth, as seen by the designer.

  1. Wow, that’s really cool. Last time I saw anything even remotley similar to this was a show on discovery that talked about Sky City, which I think was going to be built in Tokyo.

This is a really neat idea. It could litterally be a small city within a city, and those who live there would never have to leave the building.

I think it would be worth living there or at least staying there for a little while just for the experience of it. Excellent find here.
