My childhood version of this woman has officially been mangled and confused. She was the nerdy little girl who was just so much smarter than everyone else and never got any action. To know there’s something under that façade…well that just ruins my 2-dimensional cartoon character upbringing doesn’t it? Now I’m going to questions whether Papa Smurf had a secret sex dungeon at the bottom of his mushroom house…

Then again, upon growing up, I do know plenty of nerd girls who are just…wild. So who knows what’s hiding behind that coordinated orange outfit and those enormous magnifying glasses. Maybe when her eyes become smaller, so do her inhibitions…

Porn Piracy Perfectly Legal, Lawsuit Claims

Is porn art? It’s a philosophical debate, but it’s also one that could shake up the world of online porn piracy.

A woman accused by a porn studio of illegally sharing one of their titles has fired back a multi-faceted legal defense, including a bold claim that under the US Constitution, pornography cannot be copyrighted.

Lawyers for Hard Drive Productions Studios wrote to Liuxia Wong to tell her that her IP address had been fingered for sharing the movie “Amateur Allure Jen” via BitTorrent. It was what’s now becoming a familiar threatening letter, threatening court action that could result in a maximum penalty of $150,000, and demanding $3,440 as a compensation payment that would end the matter right away.

Wong not only denies the claim, but isn’t waiting around to be sued or prosecuted. She’s filed her own lawsuit, requesting a declaratory judgment. That’s not an award or damages, but rather a formal court ruling on a statement of fact or a legal question. Such rulings can be cited in subsequent cases and carry great weight.

In this instance, Wong wants the court to rule that Hard Drive was wrong to label her a pirate and was unfairly harassing her. Among her points was that it appears that although the movie was made and released more than a year before Wong’s alleged filesharing, the studio (contrary to its claims in the letter) did not register it for copyright until a few weeks after she supposedly shared it.

She also notes that the letter falsely claims that she could be held liable for the filesharing even if it was done by a stranger who was taking advantage of an unsecured Wi-Fi network.

The stand-out argument is that porn itself can’t be copyrighted. Wong cites the United States Constitution, which declares that Congress has the power:

“To promote the Progress of Science and useful Arts, by securing for limited Times to Authors and Inventors the exclusive Right to their respective Writings and Discoveries.”

According to Wong, this means that copyright laws for movies only have constitutional validity where they cover “useful Arts”, and she believes the work of Hard Drive does not come under this category. Indeed, she not only labels the work obscene, but says that by paying people to perform sexual acts in return for money, the studio is in fact committing several criminal offenses relating to prostitution. (This does raise question over the amateur status of the aforementioned Jen.)

Hard Drive hasn’t commented on these specific issues yet. It’s instead asked the court to throw out the lawsuit, reasoning that as it hasn’t yet begun legal action against Wong, it’s premature to examine any legal case it may later make.

Sonic Waves as Male Contraception?

A new breakthrough in the wonderful world of forced infertility has Sonic Waves reducing the sperm count of men. The only problem is that it is not known if this technique could be reversed so it is still in the works.

io9 reports:

Scientists from the University of North Carolina say a non-oral form of male contraception is on the horizon. According to researchers, all it takes to be effective is a couple blasts of high frequency sound waves…delivered straight to the testicles.
Using ultrasound equipment typically used for physical therapy, a team of researchers led by UNC’s James Tsuruta showed that exposing the testes of rats to two 15-minute “doses” of ultrasonic radiation could reduce sperm counts in the rats to levels that, in humans, would result in infertility. If the effects prove reversible, and the treatment is deemed safe, ultrasonic contraception could soon become a common form of male birth control.

So some SuperBass to your super bits could save you and your partner from a very stessful “pee on a stick” date.

The danger is that the onset of a miracle cure to baby-daddy-itis will likely require these brilliant scientists to invent a sonic blast that cures a whole multitude of sexually transmitted diseases. The fear of impregnating a woman might have been the last bastion of logic to resist impulsive hookups.

I also wonder… if this becomes mainstream, will people start saying “you sound infertile”? Just a thought.

One of my favorite comic related art blogs is Project Rooftop. They issue challenges based on redesigning classic characters. This week they featured some fun art by artist Maya Nord showcasing a few of DC’s finest as their gender bent counterparts. As a bonus, some cosplay friends of mine did their own take on Gender Bent Justice League at San Diego Comic Con last year and figured I’d toss some cosplay pics in as an added bonus!

Indiana Jones Custom Engagement Ring!

A man known only as Homerliwag on Reddit revealed a very unique wedding ring and proposal to his Indiana Jones-obsessed fiance to be.

Starting with an elaborate Indiana Jones themed proposal, Homerliwag gave his beloved…. a bag of sand.

TheMarySue quotes the designer and fiance:

It was about 2 or 3 days before November, 11, 2011 (11.11.11). My girlfriend Aimee was wanting to do something special that day. So, I decided to look for an engagement ring. 11.11.11 happened and I had no ring. What should I do?! Being that Aimee is an avid Indiana Jones fan, I decided to surprise her with a ring box. When she opened the box, inside wasn’t an engagement ring – Just a bag of sand! I told her, Indiana Jones must have swooped in and stolen the “treasure” and left her with a bag of sand (just like the movie).
Being a designer and artist, I felt I had to do something special. Since Aimee is a very enthusiastic Indiana Jones fan, the thought of a coiled whip as the ring seemed perfect. I did a few quick drawings and found a custom jeweler in Las Vegas. The “bag of sand” bought me some time to have the ring custom made. And with her favorite color yellow, I selected a fancy yellow diamond which also represents “The Idol”.

After pulling off this one of a kind proposal and a brilliantly unique engagement ring, I’d have that framed and hung next to the wedding pictures.

Presuming he doesn’t rip her heart out and lower her into lava in an elaborate Temple of Doom sacrifice-themed wedding.

Amazing Cosplay: [GAS] Contributor Ana Aesthetic as Emma Frost [Pic]

Dear ladies and gentlegeeks, I have the honor of presenting you [GAS] contributor Ana Aesthetic cosplaying in all her Emma Frost glory. Since Ana is too humble to post it herself, I thought she wouldn’t really mind if I took it upon myself to publish the picture to the site. Kudos to Darrell from BGZ Studios for the amazing shot. Oh, and for those who are interested in everything that is involved behind producing a photo shoot like this, here’s a short video detailing all the work was was done before Darell started taking the first picture.

The biggest and most exhausting issue was the fact that we made the set on a very steep hill. I wanted snow on the backgrounds of the picture and making buckets of it and hiking it up and down the hill took over 5 hours to do. I had zero energy left by the time I was ready to begin shooting. Placing lights on the steep hill was also an issue.. People couldn’t stand up there long to hold them due to the angle and the artificial snow was literally not touchable due to its EXTREMELY slippery texture. Meredith could NOT move an inch – Seriously.. if you touched it with your foot.. you fell on your ass.

As the resident cosplayer at Geeks Are Sexy, I have to give two thumbs up to this video. This charming girl really struck a chord with me. I’ve seen a few of you make comments about how many of the cosplayers you see (especially featured here) are paid model types, and I’ve even gotten into a disagreement with one or two about this. But this right here is what *most* cosplayers are all about. It’s a fun, inclusive hobby and Sara makes a great spokesperson for the average geek who may think they know what cosplay is all about.

Also, kudos to the team behind this. Well edited and documented. I’d love to see more slices of cosplayer life from this crew!
