Did you know the General Assembly of the United Nations adopted a Universal Declaration stating basic human rights way back in 1948?
Yeah…seems like most the world doesn’t remember, either.
No one ever said ‘human’ equaled ‘humane.’

I agree. I really really want to write an short essay on what all is wrong with this poster, but I’ll be good.
I don’t see anything wrong with the poster. It is an idealistic idea of what all humans should have access to even if their country’s laws or culture dictates otherwise.
Let’s keep it on geek stuff because when you all step outside your lane you all mess up royal. Like the above.
Why is the poster dated 2013?
Yes, “rights” are a universal and absolute truth that does not need paper. BUT, enforcing and protecting those rights, DOES require paper and people that agree on what to protect and enforce. In the USA, those “Rights” are augmented fairly often. And if we are not careful, we will lose them. Creating a global “Human Rights” document is completely useless if it is not enforced and protected by each country.
Problem is such rights don’t work out well. In america for example christians have the right to be christian and to be treated fairly. And yet are not treated that way as the country changes. Its more of “You have the right… but unless you disagree with what the general opinion is… then we will treat you like crap.”. Typical “I’m right and your not….oh but lets all be equal!”.
Show some true bravery and post this in an arena where people don’t already agree.
Have the right to join a union? Really?
Really? First one says “No one has the right to hold you in slavery” and the picture show a woman wearing a sign that reprensent a religion that hold woman in slavery…
Come on…please remove this post from here…first it not geek and sexy and second it full of lies!
This poster mentions that all adults have the right to marry and have a family, but it’s also a universal human right to choose *not* to have a family, as well as to choose the timing of starting your family, and that’s a right that many many countries don’t care to defend at all.
The poster also doesn’t recognize the difference between positive and negative rights. What one person’s right to social security, a job, and a living wage isn’t being fulfilled? Who has to give up something for that person to get theirs?
True civil rights are the things that you can enjoy without taking anything away from anyone else.
Also, where is the right to self defense?
Based on this list of rights, any govt has the right to kill you at any time, since this list doesn’t recognize the right to self defense.
For that matter, this list doesn’t recognize that anyone has the right to life.
And who decides what wage is “adequate”?
I understand, sympathize, and agree with the goals of this poster, but merely declaring these to be rights does very little to bring it to reality.
Rights w/o mechanism for enforcement are mere slogans.
the right column is to right and no with the right way
As Orwell once wrote “all animals are equal, but some are more equal then others”. Its true in real life as it is in the book. I’m a white male atheist and particularly ugly. I don’t really have any rights and am the lowest of the low below that of even the homeless
Christians have every right to be Christian, they don’t have the right to deny everyone else their rights because they want to be hateful ignorant cunts. They don’t have a right to murder people and destroy property because they don’t believe the same fairytale bullshit.
Humanity sucks at being human
mostly due to religion……… religious people are 100% sure their way is the right way (cause their holy book says so) and everyone else is wrong and therefore doesn’t deserve the same rights.
A shame it doesn’t include: “Everyone has the right to be free from religion.”
Typical…Christians have it so bad in the US. Really? Christianity still accounts for the majority of faithful in the US. Christians in the US can practice and follow a faith that in some other countries would see them imprisoned, tortured and even killed. Christians have just as many rights as everyone else and are just as protected by our freedom of religion. In fact Christians are treated far better than Muslims in this country any day of the week, as Christians don’t have to prove to everyone around them every day that they are not actually terrorists. Your last statement is the most ironic since many Christians are at the forefront of the “I’m right and you are not” crowd and fight against the equality of others who want to make choices those Christians don’t approve of. Overall the US is still one of the best places in the world that protects a lot of these rights. The overall UN list itself is just like everything else the UN does: It looks pretty and is a cool concept, but ultimately meaningless because the UN can do nothing to enforce it around the world so it is mostly lies as people and governments CAN restrict, remove and take away these rights from you at any time and in any way they have the power to do it. Our nation’s founders wrote the bill of rights to set a number of these things down as inviolable, but every day people still try to remove and restrict the protections on those 10 important aspects of our lives.
You have the right to be as stupid as you want to be
