Dan Meth has a series of Pop Cultural Charts (all of which are worth checking out). This one was submitted to us by Facebook fan Lyonel Nichols (thanks!) and we think it’s too interesting not to share. About the chart, from Dan’s blog:
No one really pays much attention to what year sci-fi movies take place. I thought it would be interesting to arrange some classic films about the future into chronological order and see what we’d find. I’ve also charted the years in which they were released as well as the current year. This is by far the geekiest thing I’ve ever done.
* I only included movies in which Wikipedia knew the exact year.

Terminator Salvation- 2018
star wars???
Star Wars?
Star Wars is set in a galaxy far far away…so it's not Earthly, or even set in the Milky Way.
not to mention long long ago. so even if we included it to start with, it wouldn't be on this chart
I have to nerdnitpick the date of STAR TREK given as 2387. The actual main events of the J.J. Abrams film take place in 2258, almost 130 years earlier.
Also, Star Wars happened a LONG TIME AGO, and this is a futuristic chart, so it has no place in it
Sadly… I think we're closer to actually witnessing "Idiocracy" than anything else on that list.
2012 – 2012
WHERE IS FIREFLY???
