I, For One, Welcome Our New Robotic Juggler Overlord [Video]

----------------

This robotic juggler, which can juggle five billiard balls at the same time was designed and built by researchers at the Department of Control Engineering at Prague’s Czech Technical University.

The five ball juggling operation is the most difficult to control, because all five axis must be controlled synchronously and the throwing up the third, fourth and fifth ball require split the juggling kinematics description in more parts and ensure carry them out in control application in right order and time using any type of cam automat.

  1. Is it bad that the only part of this video that astounds me is the fact that after it dropped one, the pattern was exactly the same for four balls?

    • It looked to me like it slowed down a little bit when there were only 4 balls… I could be wrong though.
      Pretty cool!

    • well, that thing has exact the same cycle from the moment, there are more than
2 balls in there. It's pretty logical, if you think it trough: a ball
of known weight, thrown with known force has a known flight-time. The
difficulty with juggling balls is to get all the other balls in and out
of your hand, before the first ball comes back. Since the machine can
handle the requirements for 5 balls, there's no need to create extra
sequences for less balls – the machine juggles always 5 balls, although not all of these balls have to be present… you just need to take care to reinsert the lost ball in the right timeslot, where the "hole" in the ball-sequence is.

  2. This is what happens when it's a slow day at the robot factory! XD
    But, pretty cool indeed!

  3. The juggling act is very impressive.  I agree with the other posters.  Was it just me or did no one else read the direct copy and paste web engine translation of how difficult it is to control the process?

Ive been trying and failing miserably to figure out what the original author must have meant by the last part of that sentence.
