Have you ever considered starting a blog? I’m not talking about those free wordpress or blogspot blogs there, but of a self-hosted, self-managed solution, using your own domain name. There are many reasons why a geek would want to start one (read our article: 10 Reasons Why Geeks Should Blog), so if you’re ready, my pal John Chow just told me about an offer you’ll definitely want to take advange of. His host, Hostgator, a well known, reliable web host, is currently offering a hosting deal for $3.96 per month. Now that’s *A LOT* cheaper than what I used to pay when I started this place, and yes, this is the exact same kind of plan this blog was running on. Still too expensive? Then we’re going to make it even cheaper for you by throwing in our coupon code (“gastechnews“) which will cut off 25% from your bill instead of 20%. Please note that if you know someone looking for a good host, you can also send that coupon code to them via email.
-Click here to sign up – use coupon code “gastechnews” for 25% Off.
For clarification:
The 3.96 is for customers who choose to prepay for 3 years of hosting with the hatchling plan.
The hatchling plan does have unlimited disk space and bandwidth, but you can only host one domain on it. Month to month it's 8.95 per month, the rate drops to 7.95 per month if you prepay for 6 months, 6.95 /mo if you prepay for a year, 5.95/mo for 2, and 4.95 for 3 years. New package signups get a 20% discount on their first invoice, thus making the 3.96 per month average possible when you prepay for 3 years.
Well now, isn't this tempting? Looks like Jesus above me debunked some excitement, but at the monthly price of $7/mo this might be worth it as a summer project. Sounds like fun.
Now, what about making money? With time this will be come a credible point on my resume, but how many hits a month do I need to make back the monthly fee based on ads? (I remember GaS having an article on that very subject (and I understand I should not have prospects of actually making a living off of a blog for a while), but that was a while back.)
OK, let's see… 3 years, at $4 per month, minus 25%… so we're talking about $108 for 3 years…

Ah, thanks. Looks like I need to make sure I have a topic I am passionate about and can talk about consistently and entertainingly and then realize that I'm getting enough page clicks to cash in on. Maybe I'll still try it out and see if I enjoy it.
uh i don’t see a way to get 25% off on top of the 20%. I can only get 20% or 25% off.
The 25% coupon code doesn't stack on top of the other one?
uh i don't see a way to get 25% off on top of the 20%. I can only get 20% or 25% off.
Nope. By default there is a coupon called Spring when you select whichever one you want. That one gives the advertised 20%. The only option is to replace Spring with your code and it gives 25%. A better deal than 20% for sure, but unfortunately not a stacked savings. What a shame!
Darn, sorry about that… :(
The 4$ is actually already discounted by 20% (see banner) whereas the coupon changes the discount from 20 to 25% – a bit misleading in the post.
Therefore with the coupon you go from 3.96 per month to about 3.71 per month = $134 for the 3 years.
Heh, I make that clarification at least eleventy times a day at work.

Does anyone else see the problem with "24/7/365"?
Yes … in "24/7/365" the "7" is omissible! Zap! ought be "24/7" OR "24/365." An elephant in that term that most of us missed! Thank you.
@facebook-563798322:disqus Or the "365" is omissible (per my example "24/7").
I'm paying about 0,60$ per month..+4 euro a year for a .com domain 'nuff said
