Today, we’ve got another quick question for all you IT geeks out there: On a typical day, what application or task is, for you, the biggest challenge to manage on a network and why? Is it something that requires you working off business hours?

Freakin' Exchange….
Backups? :)
crappy home gear that the students bring in. No 802.1x, POS NIC's that barely function as they should, etc…
Should be Outlook and/or Exchange. @Da Badguy is right, or close.
How about Adobe reader? always out of date, and no central management.
How about everything Adobe?
We've got adobe reader x rolled out via group policy since about the week after it came out. No reported issues so far..
when users ring to tell you about a system wide problem you noticed straight away and are already fixing.
I always enjoy having to tell 100 person that I am working on the problem because they all call at the same time. It takes more time explaining that I am working on it than actually working on it!
I try to answer a little to let people know I am working on it and give ETA but I won't answer all of the calls, the information usually spread faster if I don't answer than if I do because users ask around.
Exchange has been mentioned, but really anything that involves address book and calendar syncing.
My job is supporting Macs, and involves several clients trying to get that to play nice. Even worse on the Mac than anything else I've seen. Exchange (especially now with Outlook '11 for the Mac) are actually pretty friendly after trying to sync up Apple's Address Book and iCal to sync between many users.
Server-Updates with reboot. :-(
Do it in the Night.
Symantec anything. Backup Exec sucks
