A solid coloured eggshell (I think it's supposed to be blown...) on a chain around a person's neck was supposed to heal sickness (the sickness went into the egg). Farmers would put eggs decorated with fertility symbols on chains around their livestocks' necks to ensure offspring. They'd also bury them in the corners of fields for a good harvest.
