I'm my eyes,.. i see the geek evolution as such: []"Dorks", are level 1 characters, a mere adolescent in the scheme of things. Only capable of some very basic concepts, gaming, comics, and maybe a cult movie or two, Nothing too serious, nothing too socially inept. [] "Nerds": Over time, a dork evolves, become less situationally inept, and more obsessive, evolving into a bonified "Nerd", a Juvenile with Juvenile behavior and ways of handling social awkwardness .They correct peoples grammar, spelling, ideas and thoughts, and generally annoy people about their ideals of what and how they think things should be based within their obsession. []"Geeks": Then over time, if cultured and cured, a dork evolves into Adult hood, known to many scientist's as the "Geek" stage. They know ever line to their favorite movie series, Their clothes, room, and email all fit your obsession, and everyone around them becomes slowly concerned for their sanity. [] "Otaku": Lastly we have,... the guru of the evolutionary chain, the wise and Fabled old sage of the obsession chain, the "Otaku". Within the Japanese culture the very ideal, and level of obsession, within their society that people have shown in the past, in turn spawned its own unique word, called "Otaku". This is a word in Japanese that emphasizes the idea,.. of complete over the top unshakable obsessive compulsive fandom. They are so far gone into the world of their escapism, that they only can function with people who are on a semi equal level of their obsessiveness. They quite literally live their life as a character from their choice obsession. They often believe that its actually real, and suspect their is a conspiracy keeping the general masses from knowing the truth. Their family, and what they can barely attempt at calling friends, knows their completely and totally insane,... and simply humor you out of fear for either their own safety, or concern about the said fanatic.

Personally I think their is an evolutionary process that most people over look, within the world of geekdom.
