The Internet in 1993

Back in 1993, the Internet was a novelty whose concept few had grasped and most were confused by. This CBC-TV clip from “Prime Time News” reminds us of the astonishing conquest of the online world.

  1. The speed at which the internet is growing and evolving is mind blowing. That’s 16 years ago and is hardly recognizable as the internet and all the means of connecting to it that we know today. What’s it going to look like in another 16 years!?

  2. “the Internet was a novelty whose concept few had grasped and most were confused by”

Replace “the internet” with “cars”, “microwaves”, etc.

It takes a few years for any real technology to catch on with the general public. Until then, only a few people have them.

Which makes me all the more convinced that the iPhone is (sadly – I actually like the thing) just a fad.

  5. I bet in the next 20 years or so we will have a device that sits on our head almost like a bluetooth earphone does today that will give us instant access to anything on the net.

Like Season 7, Episode 5: Revisions of stargate SG1
“a neural interface that gives them access to all their computer records”
