Apparently, there was a rumor floating around that if you watched closely one of the scenes in Star Trek 2009, you could actually spot R2-D2 slowly drifting into space. Well folks, that isn’t a rumor anymore and has been confirmed by one of the movie’s sequence supervisors. Check it out:

Want to check it out for yourself? Load up the movie in your own Bluray player, and fast forward to 47:39. There he is!
Let me guess – - lawsuit pending! Haha

No, Lucas and JJ Abrams are fine with it. Nothing bad. There was even a contest on the Star Wars web site when the movie came out, about who can find it first and they would win a prize

There are 2 things wrong with this post. First, the scene in question ISN’T at 47:39. It’s actually a little sooner, around 47:00 exactly. And second, that pic is photoshopped. The scene is NOT R2-D2, it’s just a piece of space debris.
That would be because you’re watching it on a pirated copy of the film. On my blu-ray it shows up at 47:39 and it was confirmed to actually be R2-D2.
you dumb.
this real.
I have the bluray on my computer and I actually foudn the scene. He’s there at 47:39. That’s friggen hilarious!

Omg… IT’S TRUE! I popped the disc in my drive and first watched the entire movie (great one I might add). Then, I went and searched for 47:39 and while you’d better watch that second frame by frame, I actually saw R2D2 fly by! It’s NOT a hoax! He’s only in the picture for a few frames, but you can clearly see it pass by and disappear to the left. Seriously, go and see for your self! Great find you guys! You made me shit a brick or two! :D

It’s finally nice to see that the person screaming “ZOMG PHOTOSHOPPED!!!” is getting owned.

Definitely shopped. Seen a few in my time and this is a textbook example of photoshop. It’s difficult to see but a person of my experience can tell by the pixels.
Well, a person of your experience is wrong. After finding this article I popped the movie up, watched the clip, and lo and behold… its R2. He can be seen for an instant at 47:00, but the longer exposure starts at 47:39 and flies across the screen until around 47:32.
Obviously your experience doesn't include zooming in on the supposedly Shopped pic, and noticing the complete lack of pixel manipulation, or taking the time to do the research from the actual flick *before* arrogantly denouncing the article. *shrugs*
My bad. 47:39 – 47:42. Darned fingers :)

shophunter, i am gonna photoshop my wang into your mouth. a person of your experience should know what that feels like.

People who leave photoshopped in comments are douches. Normally everyone already knows that or it isn’t and you’re wrong. No one has ever left a comment saying something is photoshopped and it matter in any way ever. So just shut up your a douche. Doooooooouuuuuccccchhe.
Sorry but that annoys me so much.

Of course it looks fake, it's a movie. "No, that was really R2D2 in space when they filmed it."

Actually it is there but its the side view of R2-D2 and its a bit blurry bit its there! I showed my husband and he laughed at the fact that they put R2-D2 in there like that.

r2-d2's head part is not black…
Given that the Millenium Falcon chipped in to help Starfleet fight the Borg in first Contact, R2's cameo should surprise absolutely no one.
So, let me get this strait. Those of you that say this is real actually believe that there is really a R2D2? As in in real life? Think about what you are saying when you proclaim that the image is not computer generated or "shopped."
