Yes, it is, but re-read the article – Apple fails at it.

They made a great handheld computer, no doubt. No-one's gonna deny that. Not even that article.

However, as a smartPHONE, it clearly has a few things lacking that even non-smartphones have as standard, such as, you know, telling you when you've got an incoming call.

Sounds like to me a lot of people would be fine with the iPod Touch if it got Internet everywhere, even if they had to pay for that part. Of course then they'd have to carry 2 pieces of hardware that both do their jobs well, and who wants that?

I was saying this early on when they started making phones that played music & game systems that play DVDs — I would prefer 4 single-use items that each do their job excellently than one Jack-of-all-trades item that does 4 things half-assed.

Yep – app store = Nokia with full internet DER !

And everything on the iPhone is nokia 2002 – seriously.

The only thing it has is touch screen. ooh.

Not a single thing on the iPhone that was not on my nokia n95 which I got almost 5 years ago.

My n96 simply blows it straight out of the water – for serious, serious apps the nokia smashes the iphone all over the park.

Including the very simple, but incredibly important swappable 32gig cards, multiple batteries (yes I have two spares which cost me $20 – phone lasts me almost a week with wireless scanning on etc.) – unlimited music, week long life etc.

Further, the new generation of nokia are BATTERY FREE – keep up you fan boys.

I have to agree with cnet on this one. Let's face it, Apple's jewel is not doing any better than the cheapest Nokia dumbphone you'll find on ebay when it comes to handling calls or sms. It may even be worse if you care about battery life, heat dissipation or call stability, thus cnet's title.

Now let's be clear here: it's a bad phone but a fantastic communication device nonetheless. I think it's more a denomination problem we're facing here: iPhone is more an internet multimedia tablet with cellular option than a phone.
