When an advert is just flashy and has little relevance to the product, it's the definition of form over function. Which damages the product as it's not boasting about the product at all, just the ad writers' ideas about what's cool. Imagine watching an advert set in a lush green field. Sheep are roaming about. One of them suddenly starts going a bit spazzo and runs about, trying to make a break for the gate. ramming itself into the gate until it opens and then the whole herd stampedes out of the gate. "Be free" is the slogan. I just made that up myself, and it'd definitely look cool. But it could advertise ANYTHING so long as they put the product at the end of it. This isn't a good advert, BECAUSE it could be advertising anything. An advert, by definition, is meant to advertise a product. This ad is even worse, because not only is it so interchangable with any product coming out right now, but it doesn't even show what the product is. People are gonna be looking out for some cool sci-fi film if they saw this on television or, especially, in the cinema. It sucks from an advertising standpoint. Apple might get some stick, but they've promoted their products flawlessly in the past five or so years. Each ad is highlighting the great things about the product, rather than randomly some stuff that just looks cool.

Ok, it's cool and all, but these ads irritate me.

When an advert is just flashy and has little relevance to the product, it's the definition of form over function.
