They say the best defense is a good offense (or maybe it’s the other way around; I can never remember…but I digress), and this seems to be Apple’s philosophy.

As a purely objective observer (yeah, right) I find these ads to be hilarious, especially the first one.

Of course, things may actually be different this time around, and even though I’m a fully committed Mac user, I hope Windows 7 fulfills its rather large promises. Competition is good, and Microsoft’s cumulative incompetence has given Apple too many excuses to coast. From that perspective, while the first ad may be funny, I (sort of) hope it’s not true.

  2. Colin says:

I fail to see the logic, you’re changing OS, so you might as well buy 5000 dollars in new hardware as well? Mac ads used to be clever and interesting regardless of what OS you use, these were just easy jabs of questionable validity.

  3. Wes says:

I chose to buy Windows 7 for $56 rather than a Mac for $2,556. Economics 101.

  4. Mrrix32 says:

Move your stuff? Why not just get the upgrade version?

    @Wes
I’d rather wait the extra week and get Ubuntu 9.10 for free!

  5. sixx says:

@ Wes $56 gets you the Win 7 OS. $2,556 wtf? No you made a vary large mistake. A new mac is $500+ you know for the whole computer as well as a windows 7 computer$500+. ECONOMICS 101 they cost like the same duh!

No i never used a mac, but my next pc is going to be a mac. I like windows XP… Windows vista and 7 = LOL. More buggy flashy toys “eye candy” My XP is a tool i use in my daily life/business I have something that works. I really dont need the blue spinning bagel and IE is not responding “click to close now” oh… please the security in vista and 7 are a gimmick “cancel or allow” Amazing i never needed it all of these years on any PC humm maybe it protects me from me? junk! Woooo baby… why do you need 700mb to sit there? Gaming DX10 I have a DX10 card but for the life of me i cant see the difference DX9 oh wait DX10? another gimmick! I got a vista dvd sitting in my office desk and I HATE IT do you really think i am going to fall for it again and get windows 7? So i can waste more money and fall for another epic fail that i dont need?
No i dont have a old pc no its not weak…
Like i said XP works and its fast!
So when this XP or computer no longer works i am getting a mac. Time for something new!

As for every Apple ad since a year or so, the flamewar in the comments is funnier than the ad itself :)

  7. bearpupuk says:

I’m so fed up of these Mac v PC ads now.

The concept is old, overdone, and getting lamer by the day.

I mean come on Apple, whatever happened to “Think Different”? Seriously it’s time to move on.

Oh and I’m not some Windows fanboy taking a pop at Apple. I’ve owned and used Macs since my iMac DV SE Graphite back in 1999. I really like their products, I just think it’s time they found a new way to market them.

  8. windows7 says:

@sixx if you actually knew how Windows 7 worked with it’s security features, you would know that they are actually very effective. The thing is most people disable them completely, which totally negates the new security.

  9. underscore says:

sixx clearly knows nothing about technology. students can get the “upgrade” (it’s a full install) of 7 for $30 in the US or $40 in Canada. A new Mac you’re looking at a grand or so. that and if you don’t know what direct x is for, and can’t get used to Vista or 7 you will not do well with a Mac.

Personally I don’t mind Macs but Apple selling all of their products based on deceiving marketing annoys me. “Airport”? come on guys that’s a stinkin router, no need to trick people.

  10. Steven says:

I laughed the first few times I saw these adds, but after a good hour or so on youtube and about 50 adds later they really just serve to make me angry. Mac’s aren’t promoting their computers, their just bashing Microsoft. I have no problems with macs, if I didn’t do a lot of gaming I’d probably get one, but seriously, those adds are on my last nerve.

  11. sixx says:

    @ underscore
    Excuse me?
(students can get the “upgrade” (it’s a full install) of 7 for $30 in the US or $40 in Canada)

again something that i dont need. also endless reboots that brick vista and 7 along with it maybe you should google. I dont care if it was $1.

(A new Mac you’re looking at a grand or so.)
    No its $500

(that and if you don’t know what direct x is for)
How in the hell would you know?

(can’t get used to Vista or 7 you will not do well with a Mac.)

LOL OFMG i used linux alot last year so im sure apple would be a walk in the park!

AND YOU DEFEND A PRODUCT LIKE ITS PART OF YOU ‘worship it’ YOU HAVE NO LIFE? NO YOU WORK FOR MS? WHATS IT TO YOU? ITS WINTARDS LIKE YOU THAT MAKE ME SICK! Pay money for junk. I can tell it bothers the hell out of you i like XP. The last good OS MS made. Have fun with you inferior vista-7 product. I am keeping XP Now get over yourself!

$500? Where is a mac for $500 that actually comes with everything you need to run it? The Mac Mini is $599 and doesnt even come with cables, keyboard or a display.

Then lets talk about the amount of cash you’re going to fork over for all those proprietary cables you’re going to have to buy. Then you have the Apple Care on top of that. And if the display on your iMac goes bad? Yep, rather than using that spare monitor you had in the attic for such emergencies, you lose the ability to use your computer while the Geniuses at the Apple Store fix your computer. Thats the funny thing about all-in-one computers…they turn into all-or-nothing really quick.

You wanna talk about bricks? How about the people who had problems after installing Snow Leopard?

I’m someone who owned a 17″ Aluminum PowerMac. My love for Apple ended when they displayed their hypocrisy and came out with the new Intel laptops making my computer obsolete within EIGHT MONTHS!

Thats when I remembered why I always built my own computers…and I also realized why Apple only has 5% share in the computer market.
