I was a C64 owner but I remember how ZX81 was popular in first 80s. I saw programs for it in a lot of magazine at those time. Too big my nostalgia for that period…

I had a ZX81 with the expansion pack that kept falling loose in the middle of typing long programs until I duct taped it onto the system.

When I read this article I remembered that I have an old book that I used to copy games into the ZX81 called "49 Explosive Games for the ZX81" by Tim Hartnell. The first game in the book is Death Maze! I no longer have the ZX but I still have that book.

I still have mine, although it's rather the U.S. version: the TS1000 (sounds kinda like a Terminator, come to think of it).

Fond memories: 3D Monstermaze, Maze Death Race and the numerous adventures.

I'll never forget the endless typing in of hex codes from the magazines to actually build a game.

Tremendous piece of nostalgia.

A large percentage of those 1.5 million sales were probably down to gullible parents who bought it for their kids to "help with their homework." I recall spinning the same lie with both my Spectrum 128k and my Amiga.
