The 10 Best (and 10 Worst) Companies for Customer Service

September 9, 2009 by Geeks are Sexy | 9 comments

Today, Focus.com has posted a list of what they consider to be the 10 best (and 10 worst) companies for customer service.

Customers want good customer service, but if companies can just hire good PR people to cover problems up, how do we, as customers, ever demand that companies improve. We thought that a good start would be to close the information gap, so that customers know who is good and who isn’t.

The 10 best: Apple, GE, Toyota, Google, Southwest Airlines CO., Cox Communications, Hilton Hotels Corporation, Papa John’s International, The DirectTV Group, Samsung Electronics America.

The 10 worst: AOL, Best Buy, Lastminute.com, Home Depot, AT&T, SBC, Day’s Inn, Albertson’s, MCIMetro Access (Formerly known as MCI Communication), Circuit City.

Do you agree with this list? Do you disagree? Why? Let us know in the comments!

Edit: It appears this article was republished from another site, and the original source published the piece in 2006. In any cases, we’d love to hear your thoughts on the best and worst companies when it comes to customer service.

  1. Sara says:

I would add Sprint PCS to the best list and Verizon (particularly the division for local service) to the worst list.

  2. Wayne says:

Is anyone aware that this article is from 2006? All things considered Circuit City’s customer service has improved dramatically since they went out of business.

  3. Margaret says:

Seriously. How is Air Canada, or as it is known here ERR canaDUH, not on this list ?!?!?!

  4. Nolanimrod says:

Wow! I generally agree with these lists but I believe ATT is on the wrong side if the divide. I have a wireless account with them and have had 3 occasions to call them. Their customer service has been better than I would have thought possible.

  5. Tracker_shaun says:

Tiscali and BT are the worst companies in the UK for Customer Service.

  6. Kasey_Cee says:

Comcast Cable is (without a doubt) the worst monopoly I’ve ever dealt with. They care nothing about their customers, in fact, they try to make off them.

  7. Matt says:

Comcast without a doubt should be the #1 worst company to deal with. Sprint should fall not far behind.

  8. beanlax says:

I agree. Comcast has the worst Customer Service.

  9. Chris Mankey says:

Lowe’s has to be in the “worst” list. Rude, indifferent employees at every store I’ve been in. Worse than Home Despot.
