Big Buck Bunny is an amazing 3D short that tells the story of a giant rabbit with a heart bigger than himself. When one sunny day three rodents rudely harass him, something snaps… and the rabbit ain’t no bunny anymore! In the typical cartoon tradition he prepares the nasty rodents a comical revenge.

My friend Nathan Vegdahl worked on the animation for this. The project was done using only open source software, and the animation was done mostly in Blender. Pretty nice, eh?
Yeah, it’s pretty incredible what people can do with free software today! In this case, “incredible” is really an understatement :)
The picture quality was so nice i used it to test out my brand new HP laptop…even full screen the video was almost perfect (though it did pixelate a tiny bit)

Yeah, I noticed it was kind of old, but it was new to me, and I’m sure there are a lot of people out there who haven’t seen it yet.

The Blender Foundation has two shorts “Elephants Dream” and “Big Buck Bunny” and a game “Yo Frankie!” and now they have a new project called “Durian”.
