Go away IE6, you’re not our friend anymore

June 22, 2009 by Geeks are Sexy | 24 comments

Imagined by Canadian cartoonist John Martz for momentile.com, this humourous scene appears to visitors of the site who still run IE6 as their browser. Thanks to John for releasing the picture under CC.

Merci Carl!

  1. Wayne says:

Y’know, it’s really not that funny.

  2. Cassie says:

It would be a bit funnier if they were all beating IE6 to a pulp.

  3. I agree with Cassie. It’s cute but I think most of us would like to see IE6 hanging from the tree. ;p

  4. ken says:

    maha moo moo

  5. Chip says:

    Hey, they left out Chrome!

  6. Old donkey says:

    HEYYYY YOU GUYSSSSS!!!!!

  7. Sampi says:

Well, to play devil’s advocate, its really unfair to put IE6 and IE7 but not consider that other browsers also had previous versions (ex FF0.5 must’ve been a pretty bad browser).

    Also, no Chrome?

    • Tom says:

Sampi, you need to compare apples with apples. Firfox have done a ton more in their 3 versions than IE ever could have. If you want to compare FF 0.5 and then compare it to IE 0.5, (if there ever was such a version and can you image how bad that what have been)

      • AJenbo says:

Firefox is based on Mozilla witch is based on Netscape, so IE 6 Should be compared to Mozilla 0.6 or 1 (IE6 was released inbetwean thows versions). The spooky thing here is that Netscape and IE are based on Mosaic, so FireFox 3.5 is actualy also related to IE6 in a 8xGrate grandfarther’s brotheres’s 4xGrate grandson kind of way.
        A quick test of Mozilla 0.9.4 gives this Acid3 18/100 (IE7 gets 14/100), acid2 looks close to IE7.
So in conclusion “Fixfox” (Mozilla) was close to IE7 at IE6’s release.

        • AJenbo says:

P.s. the UI of Mozilla is really ugly even compared to IE6, more like IE4/5 UI.

    • Adam says:

Erm… “this humourous scene appears to visitors of the site who still run IE6 as their browser.”

They didn’t put Firefox 0.5 in there because visitors who get that pic aren’t using Firefox 0.5.

  8. Did anyone even use IE6?

    • Jay Patel says:

Yes at my school all computers are loaded with IE 6. I assume this summer, they will be upgrading but still.. Also I’m sure many other workplaces use it as well.

    • anonit says:

IE6 was bundled with XP. pretty hard to avoid

  9. Steve says:

IE6 was actually someones friend in the first place?

  10. PA says:

I hate IE6, IE7 and 8, terrible browsers that render CSS quite badly. I no longer build website with IE in mind, I tend to inform peoples about the bads of using that crapware.

    • Bob says:

Then you obviously don’t want over half of people to view your website properly. lol

    • faceless wonder says:

k dude, you ignore IE when building websites. and the majority of the world will see your site as a pile of ugly

PS. couldnt agree more, IE pisses me off with it’s sh*thouse rendition of CSS! among other things… haven’t tested IE8 much but i’m very unhopeful

  11. Niels says:

Comparing apples with apples huh? So you think it’s okay to skip a couple of years and compare the first version of Firefox with the first version of IE? Huh huh. Different time, different market, different idealogies, different interests, different game.

Should old browser users upgrade? Yes! And this is a way of informing them. I wouldn’t play it like this, but if it fits your target audience, why not?

  12. Roy G. says:

How is ie7 any better than 6? Someone remind me. I still can’t use it without bypassing the administrative controls and installing Firefox (or, if I can’t bypass administration, Chrome).

  13. eoin says:

where’s chrome. probably having a cooler party with loads of bitches and cocaine

  14. robb says:

    yeap everyone just hate IE6
btw chrome is totally on its own league or what ?

  15. Zod42 says:

Do the truffle shuffle, and maybe we won’t beat you up IE6! Maybe.
