The Extreme Sport of Cheese Rolling

Yeah, I can already hear your thoughts from here: “Cheese rolling? Are you kidding me? How can cheese rolling be an extreme sport?” Well my friends, I can well understand your skepticism, but only because you haven’t seen the following video yet.
Filmed on Monday May 25th, this event took place in Gloucestershire, England, where competitors threw themselves down a ridiculously steep hill in order to be the first to get their hands on a coveted piece of Double Gloucester cheese. Needless to say, cheese rolling is not for the weak of heart, considering the amount of people that leave the event by ambulance.

As much as I would like to say that running down that hill is the stupidest thing anyone has ever done, it actually looks kind of fun and exiting…. to watch, mostly :)
One of my friends competed in last year’s event, and broke his arm and ankle (he got to the bottom, though). I think he’s planning on going next year, again, even though he ‘missed out’ this time around.
Rather him than me.
Watched the entire video with my mouth open in amazement!
Even more amazing was the guys in thongs and banana hammocks – too much information, and obviously thought that cheese (and winning) was more important than their “packages” (or is that just a case of “it pays to advertise?”).
How do you become a “catcher” at the bottom of the hill? What are the qualifications. Again, all amazing!
this is the maddest sport eva
