Futurama is Back, Baby!

futurama

According to an inside source who spoke to Collider, Comedy Central has decided to renew Futurama for another 13 million years episodes. The futuristic farce has long been a favorite among animated comedies, filling large time slots late at night in the US.  Now, after Comedy Central has re-aired the entire series and all four movies, it seems they’ve convinced themselves that they should give it another go.

There have been rumors of new episodes for quite some time of course, but this seems to be an actual production order.  Usually once a series gets cancelled and starts being made in a “direct to DVD movie” format, there isn’t much hope left.  It seems that in this case Futurama may have a second chance at life.

If it is just a hoax, hopefully Comedy Central will see all the buzz and just pretend they DID give the order!  In any event, I’d expect to see your old pal Bender back up on the screen sometime in the near future.

How many of you watched Futurama when it was new and how many of you found out about it later when Comedy Central played every episode a million times?

I never watched it when it was new. But now I watch it every time it is on (minus the movies, not a big fan). Soooo very excited to see this back on the air!

  2. Steven says:

I remember when it came out in the UK and Sky made a big hoo-ha about it. I was a bit sceptical before the first showing but I was laughing so hard after it ended, it was just so funny and sharp. Hooked from the beginning, happy as larry to hear it coming back again.

  3. I watched the reruns, typically the ones on Cartoon Network.
As the professor would say, HUZZA!

  4. Brad Gilbert says:

I watched it on Fox, until it was canceled the first time. I don’t have cable, so I haven’t seen any that aired after that.

I watched a few shows before it was canceled but just couldnt fit it into my schedule. I now have all the DVDs and cant wait to see more episodes.

    “You win again, gravity!”

  6. Marina says:

When it first aired, it was just in time, The Simpsons were getting tired. Every Futurama episode is good. But they better watch themselves and keep Fry from referring to anything that happened the last ten years of OUR lives.

  7. Ro says:

For once good news doesn’t mean we have the opportunity to deliver a package to a planet on which the eradication of human life is considered a worthwhile pastime. Woo Hoo for more futurama.

    Bender is Back…!!!

  9. I have watched Futurama since it first aired. I love it and my love of The Simpsons brought me to it. I have seen every episode and all the movies. When it started airing late nights thats when all my friends started asking me for episodes. Now everyone is salivating and waiting for more. The movies were not up to par with the original episodes. I hope Matt steps it up a notch on this one….

Hypno toad wants you to bring back the series…

  10. Leslie says:

i’m hearing it’s been renewed for -26- episodes. which would be even MORE awesome! :D [i could be wrong though... rare as it is, i -am- wrong about things from time to time. ;b ]
