The Scratch Card Scam

June 8, 2009 by Geeks are Sexy | 2 comments

In the following video, the Real Hustle crew set up a booth in a shopping mall, making people believe they’re selling scratch cards to raise money for a children’s charity. Naturally, they say people can win prizes by participating; from designer products to a free vacation. But what they don’t tell the victims is that they’re out there to swindle them out of their money… in a big and easy way. Check it out.

Not very elegant, is it? Just a long-winded and very public (several identifiable faces and voices) attempt to steal credit card information. Also, I didn’t get why they pulled the additional trick of stealing “minor” sums in several ways – surely if they were after personal data, they wouldn’t have made extra risks?

I’m not sure what this is meant to show? The video plays on an obviously naive 21-year-old. ANYONE who believes this spiel deserves to get taken. Seriously? Honestly? This guy believed them? He’s not a “mark” he’s a simpleton.
