For those who have been wondering about the future of the Zelda franchise, Nintendo revealed at E3 that there is indeed a new Zelda game for the Wii in the works; legendary designer Shigeru Miyamoto revealed this conceptual artwork at the expo earlier this week.

So who is the mystery character standing with Link? The popular theory so far is that she may be the physical incarnation of the Master Sword.

She bears great resemblance to the Great Fairy Queen from Wind Waker.
Here is a better comparative draw between the master sword and the girl on the artwork.

So all these years Link has been man-handling some little girl? Yikes.
Hey, I’m cool with this if it keeps those high-pitched fairy folk from pestering the crap out of you while you’re trying to play. Another great idea: build in a mini-game where you get to shoot Tingle. That chubby mustached fairy is the JarJar Binks of the Zelda universe.
