Spotting silly vanity license plates is always a fun activity, especially double-innuendo or borderline-obscene ones. But some of the best still come from those who show their geek pride on their bumpers. Kudos to the clever Flickr photographers who make a hobby of spotting geeky license plates! And of course, there’s more where these came from.

If you were going to show your geek cred on your license plate, what would it say? If you’re stumped, there’s always GKS R SXY.

The license plate on my 09 Scion xB says “OTAKU”. I got that back when I was really starting to get into manga, anime and all things Japan.

Did you realise, at the time, that in Japan the term “Otaku” is derogatory and considered to be very insulting?

The two Ohio plates are from Franklin county, i.e., Columbus. Former resident here.

I used to live next to that guy. (Or…’That Car’) He lives in the Colonial Hills development of Worthington. There’s another similar car in their driveway.

I know a girl who has this license plate, which is one of the geekiest I’ve seen to date. Before that, she also had this one.

Try to honor the creative common license next time and give me credit for the photo.

Actually, there is a link to your photo page in the post. Not only do we want to be sure that we’re honoring Creative Commons, but we want our readers to be able to follow the link and see more of your photography. It’s credit well deserved!

We did specify the source of the picture Steven… there’s a link to your flickr page right on top of it, just like all the other pictures featured in this post.

If you’re in Ontario, Canada, you’re out of luck – there’s a guy in the Keele/Bloor area of Toronto with an MST3K plate and a Cthulhu-fish on his bumper…. So awesome

License plates are probably the first step. The next step could be changing the personal name :-)

th belgian one:CSS is not a nerd plate; it’s coincidence.
Custom plates are extremely expensive and the few that i’ve seen are on luxury cars…
Our system just increments for license plates: always 3 letters and 3 numbers (recently they’ve distributed all of those so now it’s 3 numbers and 3 letters)

Agreed. the Belgian numberplate (CSS-503) is probably coincidental. 3letters-3numbers are standard for all plates here and custom plates are rare.

My license plate says “URL 404″, which is funny because I work as a web developer, and it was one of the reasons I bought that car :D
