I hadn't, actually, but that's really interesting!

I love how the top post is someone who was injured because someone was playing it while drunk. I'm pretty sure you can injure yourself doing anything while drunk. I think I saw someone hit themselves in the head with a regular nintendo controller after a few too many once.

Welcome Geoffrey :)

I have to agree with you on this... People should take responsibility for their own acts. I've heard of some people getting a black eye because an idiot was over-reacting with his Wiimote... but in this case, the person getting sued should be the idiot, and not Nintendo :)

Normally I just read blogs and enjoy the conversations, but I had to make this my first ever comment. My son is almost 4 years old and still doesn't have the hang of going easy, but I strap the remote to him and watch him to make sure everything stays cool. Sometimes he swings it around and throws it with the force of a Major League pitcher, but has yet to break the strap. When are people going to learn to take responsibility for their own actions and not just resort to suing? If he breaks the TV it is MY fault, not Nintendo's!

Pathetic. There is no game that requires you to even move the remote at a velocity that would break a TV. It is apparent by the mother's overreaction that the son learned to really overdo things from her. It's her own fault.

After the initial straps were recalled, a friend and I intentionally broke the original straps that came with the Wii. It took a lot of force, way more than I can ever see being generated from throwing the Wii-mote. At least way more than could happen in a single throw. Maybe overtime the thread could weaken, but still, it would need to be one hell of a pitch. I can't help but wonder how many of the straps "broke" after the Wii-mote had already been tossed through a TV.

I am amazed how people in this country look for any way to sue and make money. Like you mentioned, Nintendo has beefed up the strap on the wiimote, but they have also provided a rubber casing for the wiimote to give it more grip. If you are using so much force that you are able to break the strap and let go of the wiimote, then you should not be allowed to use the system.

Excessive force with any item is going to cause it to brake and any subsequencial damage is your fault.

Seriously, I hardly ever put the strap on, it's just a pain in the butt when I want to put the wiimote down for a sec. It has never gone flying anywhere. The strap should be a last resort saftey net (or safety strap!), maybe these people should start by learning not to toss their wiimotes across the room!

I have a Wii and thank God nothing like that has ever happened to me. I do play some games that involve swinging the Wii-mote, but I think I don't get THAT carried away, so that if the wrist strap breaks it wont break my TV or someones head.
Maybe your kid can do that by playing with "the controller" not with the Wii itself, but remember the wrist strap is only a security measure, I think you shouldn't let go of the control in the first place.
Anyways, 5 million dollars!!!! What kind of TV was that??? o_O
