amazing, always a apple fanboy convention, don't you find it ironic that the entire mac os design ideology is based around the simple fact that it's users can't do simple things, yet here you are on a purported 'geek' blog.

Thanks for the info, Chris. Just so I can get my head around the prices, I converted them to US Dollars: $1692 for the laptop, about $62 for the warranty. If your notebook really is fully loaded, that's not bad. What features did you upgrade? The base spec has a 12" display, only 1 GB of SDRAM, a 1.2 Ghz processor, and 120GB hard drive.

I think it's a great idea, I bought a high spec P8010 with loads of RAM, 3G etc so it's currently maxed out so I doubt I will need to upgrade it before three years. They said they will go up to 10% of the cost fora similar model so £1000 today would give me a similar model upto £1100 in 3 years.

I've read all the T's & C's and cannot find a loophole - The additional warrany cost me £40 (All lifebook units come with 2 as standard) so again if it only cos't me around £40 every three years for the rest of my life even after 1 notebook upg I would have made my money back

This is where the details of the deal I got are

Looks like these Fujitsu Lifebooks only come with Windows (Vista Business, by default, but you can still get XP as well). I wonder if wiping and loading some other OS would invalidate the warranty, and thereby nullify the upgrade deal?

But as you said, if you're going to run Linux, you shouldn't need a new one in three years anyway.

^_^ Windows machine? Don't own one. Don't care to either. OK, there's a Windows machine at my dad's house, but I've abdicated responsibility for it. The count of computers for which I act as admin is:
- 2 Ubuntu laptops
- 1 Edubuntu laptop (Christmas gift for my cousin, I'm setting it up)
- 1 Ubuntu desktop
- 1 Debian desktop

Glad it's working out for you so far. The Fujitsus are a bit pricier than their competitors, but if you find they're worth it, then good.

You're right -- any replacement parts or memory upgrades have to be done under warranty, which means only genuine Fujitsu parts.
