Comments on: Legend of the Seeker: Ripping Tale or Telling Rip-Off?

I came to this AFTER reading the books and unfortunately had an expectation that it would at least be acceptable. I'd describe the acting as dire. The male lead is leaden, the female lead is attractive and I'm still trying to think of a word that describes the portrayal of Ged. The acting makes Xena look like a contender for an oscar.

For the record, now that the first season is complete I must say I have been very impressed with the series. On top of being a good show, it has gotten me to read the Sword of Truth series, which is Harry Potter-like in addictiveness. I think that while both the show and the books have different major plots, they both do a good job with what they have!

Considering it is shot in New Zealand with many of the same cast and crew of Xena/Hercules and the Lord of the Rings, of course it generally will have the same feel.

I found LOTS however, quite dull.

Interesting piece; I caught about 35 minutes last evening and felt that it was pretty lacking…but continued watching nonetheless. You make some really good points – MotW has zero appeal and it really does have the same feel as Xena and Hercules.

Interesting side note – you refer to the series at times as Legend, which makes sense, but it made me think of 'the real' Legend from 1985. The writer is a friend of mine and at first I thought you were drawing comparisons there as well. Though not likely intended, they would have been accurate…though I think the 1985 version is officially 'cult classic' status at this point. Tom Cruise at 23 with Ridley Scott at the helm…
