Ask [GAS]: What Old Game Do You Still Play?

The last time I moved (into an apartment that is, arguably, way too small to hold all of my stuff), someone asked me why on earth I still bother to have my Super Ninendo hooked up, nestled between my PS2 and Game Cube (no, I do not have any next-gen consoles, as I’m living off of student loans, but if anyone would like to take up a collection…). After all, it’s practically a relic; they stopped making games for it over ten years ago.
And even though it does have quite a bit, sentimental value isn’t my reason for keeping the console. I keep it because I have to be able to play Tetris Attack. Despite all of the games that I have played and loved since 1996, this is one that I cannot live without. There have been similar games over the years (the Pokemon-themed one for N64 was probably the closest), but none that quite match the gameplay and charm. It’s completely addictive. And? I rule at this game.
So what about you guys? Is there a console that you keep around just for a game or two? Do you have an emulator for your favorite oldie-but-goodie? Or with the new downloadable games, maybe you’re even lucky enough to be able to play it on your current console! I for one love that I can play original Zelda on my Game Cube. I don’t think I’ll be able to hold off on a Wii anymore if they release a version of Tetris Attack for it… especially if there was online play. Mmmm.

Hmmm, earlier this week, I got nostalgic about Gradius, and old NES 2d shooter, and went online to see if I could find it somewhere….
After a minute, I stumbled on a fully functional java version
http://www.arcadecow.com/game/12551/Gradius.html It’s a bit hard to get it started, but once you’ve figured it out, it’s easy to start over.
I am still playing 3, even if it’s only web-based flash now…
Lemmings, Bubble Bobble and Supaplex.
Guess I like puzzles…
Lemmings nearly ruined my career it was so addictive. I had to destroy the diskette.
Unreal Tournament G.O.T.Y from 2000. Every day at lunch.
I still have my original Gameboy (black and “white” screen, and see-through body) LOL.
I have to admit to original Tetris and Dr. Mario urges.
Monkey Island and Bionic Commando are two of my faves…
I still have my original nes hooked up to my 60″ tv. I love all the mario bros games and cant part with the console. Funny enough whenever people come over it is the first thing they see and the only thing they want to do.
I still have my original Atari 2600 and about 300 games for it. I play it all the time with my kids – they love Asteroids. My favorite is still Circus Atari with the paddles.
Nintendo just came out with Tetris Party for the Wii. I don’t know if it does exactly what Tetris Attack did, but there is an online feature, I think.
I play Dr Mario every day, I have an nes and snes emulator on my phone so when I’m on the move and I have some time to kill I always end up playing Dr Mario
I have a NES at home. Hunted down Gunsmoke for it.
Used to play it as a kid… Hard to let that one go…
I still play Windows XP Backgammon. I just said that to make myself appear young on my birthday.
Happy 30th anniversary Chip!
(You are 30 aren’t you?)
I’ve got my SNES hooked up to my TV right along with my PS2 and my Wii. I still play the oldies regularly. =3 Good old Kirby and Bomberman still rock.
Sadly I never did get a sega megadrive, but my gamecube means I can play the retro sega games. =3
I still have my old Sega Genesis, and all my games. I play is constantly
battletoads!!!
mario kart
super mario 3 or w/e its called…
double dragon
teenage mutant ninja turtles for NES
My favorite game that I still play from time to time is Oregon Trail.
E.V.O. : Search for Eden, definitely !
I am quite fond of Excite Bike and NES Zelda. Additionally, Settlers 2 and Chrono Trigger have stolen large portions of my recent life. Super Metroid is a strong contender as well.
I got this huge urge to play Illusion of Gaia on the SNES. I was on a site for some videogame ringtones and I came across the mp3s for Illusion of Gaia. I went and hooked up my SNES to the big screen and started playing it all over again. MAN WAS IT GREAT!
A professor at college got a bunch of us hooked on Rogue. I hope I win before I graduate.
I still play a lot of old coin-op arcade games from the 80’s and 90’s via MAME
I love them! I even have a X-Arcade dual controller
Super Mario Kart
I admit to still having a love affair with Super Mario 3. I play it all the time on my NES emulator for the pc.
