Star Wars: Episode IV – The 1977 Movie Trailer
October 21, 2008 by Geeks are Sexy | 6 comments

Released back in 1977 to promote George Lucas’s original masterpiece, Star Wars – Episode IV, this trailer certainly brings me back some fond memories of the 70’s. If you were born at the time, do you remember seeing this on television or at the theater? When viewing it now, it’s funny how the whole thing looks like a poor, fan-made montage, created to pay hommage to the Star Wars saga.

Great trailer. Lot of retro charm.
That’s actually quite creepy. It’s the lack of John Williams’ music that makes it odd. Why they went with that slightly odd, almost Italian horror-like theme instead is beyond me. And that voiceover… makes you shudder. All very bizarre. Hardly inspired the ‘wow’ factor we all had back then, does it?
Thanks for that. It does bring me back to my youth.
I don’t remember the trailer but they sure put a lot of the movie in just a minute.
What’s remarkable about this is it has pieces of hte original edit of the cantina fight between kenobi and the pirate. It’s frequently been cited as an exampel of the wonders of editing.
The original fight as filmed was AWFUL. Everyone hated it. The editor was given a free hand to rework it into something useable – and now we know that there’s very little ‘action’ in that scene, just Kenobi’s lightsaber coming out, “No blasters! No blasters!” a cry of pain, and a disembodied arm on the floor. But in this preview, more of that scene is visible.
I thought all footage of that was gone, cool to see bits of it!
Would be nice to see someone do a remake of that trailer. See what it would look like with today’s editing and all.
Whatever happened to Voiceover Guy?! Was he not available?
The guy in this one was sending me to sleep! “We have a boy and a girl and a….” zzzzz…
