There was one Iowa Electrathon team that went with aluminum, and it was the cause of the worst accident in Iowa Elecrathon history. The steering rod broke while trying to make a turn, it broke at a weld. The broken weld cut a huge gash in the side of the drivers leg. I would recommend staying with a steel steering system.
