First Seinfeld + Gates Microsoft Ad is Utterly Pointless

September 4, 2008 by admin | 18 comments

Before saying anything, watch as Jerry Seinfeld and Bill Gates make total fools of themselves.

Now is it only me, or are you guys also thinking that this is utterly pointless? I know that Microsoft and Mr. Gates are astronomically rich, but they could at least try to spend their money on something that would have the potential of having a positive impact on future customers.

Let’s just hope that the rest of the campaign makes a little more sense than this.

I saw this commercial and it was incredibly not funny, annoyingly long, and just plain boring. You said it pretty well with utterly pointless…

They have to start with a intro, and just that you’ve maked a post about this, and I’m writing this, is a plus for Microsoft. ;)

And: “…Jerry Seinfeld and Bill Gates make total fools of themselves.”
Who wouldn’t do that for $10mio?
I could do that for a single million. :)

I Got a good little laugh from it at the begining. But then again I have a strange sense of humour.

I thought it was pretty funny. The Mac vs PC commercials are getting pretty tired. This first commercial showed me that the Seinfeld/ Microsoft campaign might be at least entertaining.

Is it just me or does Bill Gates in this act a lot like the Family Guy version of Bill Gates?…

The only thing that made me laugh was “they run tight.”

Mostly lame. Seinfeld, you’re ruining your brand.

I thought it was great. I guess people are just so used to being anti-microsoft that they just hate everything they put out. I thought it was good to step away from Vista and make an entertaining commercial, try to alter the big bad evil corporation label. Unfortunately I don’t think that will ever happen, people hate MS and even if they use the products everyday, everyone has a gripe.

What did you think was funny about it?

He didn’t said it was funny. Just that it was great. ;)

I really think that Microsoft can do something.

Obviously this is just the start of an ad campaign designed to make us realize that Microsoft is really just made up of people, people like us. We can relate better to people than we can to a huge organization that doesn’t seem to care. This ad wasn’t about Vista it was about getting us to feel warm and cozy about Microsoft. And the $10m isn’t just for one ad, I think that pretty much guaranteed. This was just an intro.

I think you pretty much hit the nail on the head.

WTF? The windows symbol at the end just flashed by. I think the average television viewer would have no idea what they just saw.

Seriously… no mention of their product, horribly boring and unfunny conversation and would make a crack-whore double-take and say “WTF?!?”

What where they thinking? Waste of their money, and my time.

To be fair though, I’ve never found Seinfeld to be funny. But still… this was a new low.

I’ve always been a big Seinfeld fan, but this was disappointing. Maybe it’s because he wasn’t writing with Larry David.

I liked Seinfeld back in the day. This made me want to cry a little.
