Indeed , we do not know what good scientific explanation to give to those placeh holders, we always try to explain something new, via something we know already and expand it a little. Maybe now , we have to come with some new theory , bound by laws of the total universe, and not only local. And by we , i mean those great smart scientists ;)

Nice presentation, but ... what this explains is that Physics has a big problem that lacks a good answer. We have measurements that do not give the expected results, and we do not know why.

And that is all.

The terms "dark matter" and "dark energy" are placeholders. As yet we have no clue why what we observe differs from our theories. Would be just as meaningful to call it <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Luminiferous_ether" rel="nofollow">"luminiferous aether"</a>.

Our knowledge of Physics tends to be very local (on a universal scale). We do lots of measurements on or near the Earth's surface, a much smaller number of Earth orbit, and almost none outside Earth orbit (relatively speaking). The amount we are able to deduce about the greater universe is remarkable, but also rather uncertain. Could be that our locally measured physical "constants" aren't quite the same outside our tiny neighborhood.

Shorter explanation would be "we do not know".

stunning !! really great video, i wondered if you could send me the vid. link so i can write a little post of it myself on my blog. I always was interested in astronomy, I still can't get past the questio of " space is expanding, so if you draw space, the total universe, there is nothing behind it right...so it's expanding in nothing....but how does that look, there is nothing, nothing black , nothing light, no mass, no energy ...nothing....goddammit what lies right next to the border of the universe ???
plz send me the link of the video ...it would bring me up with another post ;)
thx
