Live dinosaur spotted in LA’s Museum of Natural History

July 23, 2008 by Kiltak |

Here are two videos of a mini T-Rex dinosaur on the loose inside LA’s Museum of Natural History. No folks, this isn’t some CGI animation, it’s a dinosaur suit being manipulated by someone. Wish something like this would happen here in Montreal so I could bring my kids and see the wonder upon their faces!

I think that’s brilliant. The guy really nailed the mannerisms and movement nuances, particuarly in the neck. Well, at least I think. My only real frame of reference is Jurassic Park and Walking With Dinosaurs.

This actually is part of the walking with Dinosaurs exhibit. I can’t remember if it’s finally here in LA or if it’s coming soon as this was a little preview. I wish I had known they were doing it. I would have so scraped up the money to go see it.

I was at Auckland museum a while back, (blissfully unaware of the existence of realistic dinosaur dress-ups) wandering alone through some of the darker spookier sections of the museum when all of a sudden what appears to be a real live dinosaur knocks into me accidentally from behind. I don’t think I’d ever been more scared in my life! Of course, I screamed and ran for it. And felt quite silly a bit later when I came to my senses and realized there could not possibly be a live dinosaur stalking me and there had to be some other explanation. :D

That absolutely terrified me. It’s awesome though.

Absolutely fantastic. Especially the flinch of shock/rapid motion @ 0:46

I do wonder however what was going through the guys head in the end when he ducks his head and runs across the hall

Well, not in that league but we did have something quite fantastic in a similar vein last week in Montreal as part of the comedy fest. A troupe of artists in lifesize and very realistic giraffe costumes paraded downtown as part of the street festival. They interacted with people and were very lifelike. Including adult and baby giraffe characters climbing around each other. It was mesmerizing. Still though, this dino is awesome.
