I understood that this was not a post begging for a lesson in morality and I'll concede that my response could've been more subtle.

But does that mean we should turn a blind eye? Isn't that kind of dismissive apathy part of why society's standards continue to spiral down the drain? When IS it appropriate to take the least bit of a stand?

I'm new here via the "I Love Geek Girls" group in geeks.pirillo.com.

Let me get this out of the way first. The post, in it of itself, is very valuable and informative for someone like me looking to pro-blog someday. So big-ups to guest blogger Ryan for the post.

But...hmmm, how do I put this in a non-offensive tone...gah, Screw it!

Rob O., with all due respect, this wasn't a post begging for a lesson in parenting or morality! I get it; I get the whole Miley thing. While I totally disagree, I respect other's opinions. But there's a more tactful way of expressing one's thoughts that doesn't sound like a personal and judgemental attack on the author.

This reminds of a similar situation I was just in when looking for developer guy to work on a project of mine. Sent the specs over to a potential service provider and here was his response:

"Don't waste my time with this crap. While I can build-to-spec, I can't support yet another childish and immature social networking site. As a father...blah, blah, blah!"

All he had to say was "not interested." Wasn't going to hire the guy for his moral values. I was requesting a service.

That's all I'm saying. I'm sure you get my point.

Thanks for the response, Kiltak!

My comment may have come across a little unduly harsh. Certainly I see the value in the underlying lesson that Ryan is presenting here. I understand that he's just using a current hot-button topic as a reference and that the same concepts could be applied to any number of topics.

Hey Rob, just to let you know, it's guest blogger's week here on [GAS], so about half of the post you'll see this week comes from new voices... Ryan, the dude who wrote that post, is not only an extremely cool guy, but also a web marketing genius. You can see this post in a bad or good way. If you're looking to live a living out of the Internet, you have to write content based on what people are interested in. It can be about Miley Cyrus, or any other person or "concept" you think will work, and obviously, for this, Google trends can be your best friend.<br>

Yes, a lot of people who read this site are tech / IT professionals, but there are quite a few web pros as well.. so we try to please everybody.

I'm not some "pure as the driven snow" kinda guy, but I do sorta think it's a bit, um, unethical to ride the coattails of this trampy little girl whose parents are too greedy to have any morals or scruples.

By all rights, her latest scandal should be the end of her Hannah Montana career - and I'll certainly be swearing off of Disney if they don't make an example of her over this. The only way to send a clear message to people like this is to hit 'em in the wallet.

If we tolerate - and profit from - this, what aren't we simply advocating that this sort of trampy behavior from pre-pubescent little girls is not only acceptable but also merits reward? If you're a parent, is that really the message you want your little girl to be getting? Are you truly ok with your daughter idolizing someone who advocates disrobing for money at 14 or 15 years old?

I know this post was probably intended to be in fun, but as a new parent, I'm finding that this kind of stuff really aggravates me much more now. You guys are better than this...
