Playstation 3 Firmware 2.41 is now out for the PS3 folks! All the bugs have supposedly been fixed.

I’ve got an AU version of 60G, and I downloaded the firmware on 2 July about 4pm (AEST; GMT+10) from PS website, like Jeff, and installed it without any problem. I played GT prologue just to try the new firmware and don’t have any problem. I played an PS2 game too and nothing was wrong (though the XMB didn’t come up… sign)

I can however confirm it is true that the Australian PS website has also advised not to use the new firmware, which has now been taken offline.

But, from reading the PS forum post, I suspect it may be MGS4 causing the problem… (Just a wild guess! Please, don’t take it offended.)

Updated on tuesday night and had no problems as of yet. Everything seemed to work fine for me, the only thing I couldn’t really test was trophies since no games as of yet, or at least I don’t have support this.

Just FYI, not all units were effected and this is not a stunt for hits. See the official Playstation website. It’s just like anything else, ie games, some have issues some do not.

Up until now, the PS3 hasn’t had any problems with system stability from updates as far as I have noticed, only games were ever unstable. Thus, I am led to believe that this is just a way of somebody racking up web hits.

got my update late off of a torrent worked like a charm using a memory stick pro duo. XMB in game is great!!!!

I’ve updated mine quite happily to 2.40. I always try to download the firmware to a USB thumb drive and update from there, as that seems to cause the least headaches.

From what I’ve read so far, it appears that the problem is with corrupt update data on the hard drive. The PS3 reads this on reboot before displaying the license agreement and confirming you want to start the install.

You can supposedly fix the problem by installing a new hard drive into the PS3. You can then boot up using the existing firmware. However, it sounds like the old hard drive is useless and must be reformatted, so you lose all your saved data.

If you have had your PS3 bricked, call up Sony and talk to them. They’re supposedly working with affected customers to diagnose and fix the issue.

Mine has sound but no HDMI video output and I cant get it to reset the video! WTF Sony?

BTW I use the optical for audio!

I did reset the video but it still does not come back on! Anyone have the same video issues?
