Agreed. Some people knock 'em -- mostly those who haven't tried 'em -- but virtual drums really have a lot of advantages. Plus, they're just cool from a technology perspective! I think my ideal situation, personally, would be having an acoustic and an electronic kit in my home so I have the flexibility of playing either, depending on my mood and need.

I've had the same issue with stomping noise from the pedals. I try to limit my playing to daytime hours and luckily haven't had too many problems. Oddly enough, the only complaint I've ever gotten came from an *upstairs* neighbor. I never quite figured that one out.

The best thing about an electronic drum kit, record your MIDI outs, go through on the computer and correct all your mistakes, run your MIDI tracks back into the drum kit and record your audio outs... Ta Daaaa! Perfect drum tracks. And the samples they usually use in these are often of much much much higher quality than you can get in your bedroom recording an acoustic kit. I rate the Yamaha electric kits.

I've had a V-Drum set for around 5 years now and I love it. I got the blue kit, with the rubber pad for the bass drum and the half-size cymbals.

The only thing I don't like it that the pedals still make a lot of noise when you have people living below you. Also, when you hit really hard (as I do), they still make a fair amount of noise (nothing some minor sound proofing can't fix though).

Oh, and if you want that same oomph that you get from a real bass drum, attach a Buttkicker to your throne. It simulates that same rumble without the sound.
