It is still possible to get temporary and even (though rare) permanent image persistence in LCDs, though it's not as common as in plasmas or CRTs.

Yes, that would indeed be a problem... if you would still use that 20-year old CRT monitor. -_-

I really like the hand written clock. Unfortunately since the year stays static for well, a year, that might lead to some screen burn.

I find I am only concerned with screensavers when it comes to my home theater pc, which drives a 50" plasma, which can be prone to image retention. So its important that said screensaver doesn't have any areas of static color, otherwise it defeats the purpose by actually causing the problem it is meant to prevent. I have tried a lot of nice looking ones, as well as ones that display photos etc, but noticed they use a fair bit of CPU. As most home pcs are not meant to be run at full cpu, (they do heat up, and unless you upgrade the cooling the cpu will start to crash and eventually not work after a few years), and my home theater pc in particular is slightly under-fanned for noise reasons, I ended up just using blank screen, to preserve the life span of the machine.

Looking for other suggestions though for screen savers that meet my 2 requirements, no static image areas, and minimal cpu usage.

That way I always know how much time I'm wasting online

My favorite screen saver in the 90's was the 'The Matrix' one, with all the green characters streaming down the screen.

These days I just have that Photo thingee that comes with Google Pack.
