Finally – a YouTube download script that WORKS!

One of my favourite websites that I visit on a daily basis is YouTube, and until now I have never been able to find a reliable online service to download a copy of the videos that I like to my PC. Many websites have promised me the world but when I click on the magic button, nothing happens… but today, my world became just a bit brighter.
I was reading this webpage on Google Operating System about a bookmarklet and Greasemonkey script for downloading Youtube videos as “mp4 ” files. I tried it out (expecting it to fail) and Holy Cow, it actually worked!!
It puts this link next to each video :

As the page says, just right-click on that download link, choose “save as” and save the file as a “mp4″ file. Failing that, save it as a “flv” file (not all videos can be saved as MP4’s)
When you right-click on that “download as MP4″ link though, the Windows Explorer box will pop up and show this :

No worries though. Just overwrite the default name with the name of your file, including the extension (.mp4 or .flv), and then click “save” to start the download.
- Google finally surrenders & posts a privacy link
- YouTube is finally monetizing their videos
- Monty Python launches official YouTube channel
- Become a power link-clicker with Snap Links

I just use Unplug: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/2254 It says it’s not for FF3, but it’s one of the extensions that actually does work when you turn off compatibility checking.
I just use zamzar:
* Set up their Bookmarklet
* Assign the keyword “Zam”
* Find Video
* Type “Zam” into my address bar
* Choose video/audio file type
* Link waiting in email a little later
* DOWNLOAD!
vixy.net has always worked quite well for me…
Nice service..I will try it soon..I myself use VDownloader. You can save the vids as different formats…very handy to see the lesson vids again :)
You should try Save2PC (www.save2PC.com) – It never fails. There is a free version very functional
I use Yahoo hosting.
With that you just copy the ‘embed’ link on ‘YouTube’ into a html box, expand to size and it’s done.
Or am I missing something here?
I’m a bit of a technophobe, which is why I use yahoo hosting in the first place.
Pete.
Thankyou for this – this bookmarklet is so handy and easy to use. I had tried some of the online conversion sites but didn’t always find them reliable.
PS-What’s the little checkbox after the “Add Comment” button for?
