I think I’m comparing Office for NT to Corel’s version, after it went wysiwyg. Before that, WP with the function keys shortcuts was the best. I think I still have an old cardboard template lying around somewhere.

Word better than WP? No way…at least not back then the way a text was code-formatted in WP made things a lot easier, especially when formatting issues arose, and that was quite often back then…

One of my first certs was in Netware.
Microsoft just made everything easier. Word was a huge improvement over word perfect. Excel was way better than Lotus 123. And when it came time to do networking, both client-server and peer to peer (not the gnutella/bit torrent stuff), NT made it much easier.

I don’t think it was a matter of competitiveness as much as microsoft’s opponents stopped innovating.

But finally there are open source alternatives for office suites that are really nice.

Interesting. I wasn’t even sure what novell was, I just knew my college used it for our emails etc, and i kept think, this is not as easy or as pretty as hotmail

I think there was a time I used to use wordperfect, now there are so many, I just take whichever come for free [trots off]
