Did you ever find a way to make this work?, I need to do something similar, I like to listen to podcasts that are only available online for a week, I work at sea and so often am not able to download the mp3 before its gone.

Not bad but sadly no, not what I was looking for. At work there's a firewall blocking all MP3 downloads. For some reason MP3 attachments in Gmail seem to be allowed through. So what I really want is an automatic service that delivers the MP3 file to me as an attachment in Gmail.

Thanks for the research though.
