Watch as one of America’s sexiest geeks, Kari Byron, chops down a tree with a M-134D minigun. This dangerous toy can fire at a rate of about 3,000 rounds per minute, or 50 per second.

I have to point out that it appears that she turned around and high-fived someone before rendering the weapon safe. Not cool.

Although he never took one hand off the weapon after his go, he did turn halfway around before turning back to flip the switch to off.

It would be nice if they made just a little more effort to demonstrate proper gun safety rather than simply fawning over its destructive power.

eh- while I agree that miki was generalizing in a bad way, I thought that Dave’s comment was totally reasonable. For a long long time I was very anti-gun, but learned to target shoot this past summer. As a sport, it is a way cool lot of fun. Do I think that everyone walking around with guns is a good idea? Nope. I think safety reminders like Dave’s are a great public service. It is no different than an experienced bungie jumper correcting a video of someone jumping irresponsibly. If you are going to promote a dangerous sport, it is important to do it in a safe and responsible way. We need very experienced sportsmen around to point out the safety mistakes others may make. He did not say “don’t shoot”, he said “shoot safely, please”.

You’re lumping me in with Miki based on my complaint regarding safety?

I didn’t make any claims regarding violence or otherwise make any anti-gun statements. But I do place a higher priority on gun safety than you appear to.
