Save the environment, type on a bamboo keyboard

Are you an environmentally-friendly geek? Then how about discarding your plastic keyboard and having a bamboo one instead?

Judging from a quick Google search, it seems that the concept of the bamboo keyboard came first from Japan, and now, it is gradually making it way across the rest of the world for a very reasonable $60, mouse included.

Just don’t show it to your panda neighbours when they come round to visit.

So how exactly do you save the environment by cutting down bamboo?

Well I’m not saying using bamboo is going to single-handedly save the world overnight but you’ve got to admit that bamboo is more environmentally-friendly than plastic. Bamboo is a plant that can be re-grown.

But look at the Wikipedia entry for plastic which lists one of its environmental threats as “the release of toxic pollutants”

So, to be environmentally friendly we should first discard our existing (presumably, non-recyclable) keyboards?

Wouldn’t it just be better to hold on to your keyboard so it doesn’t end up in landfill?

Maybe a bamboo one would be good if you actually needed a new keyboard, but not as a replacement for a working one.

Yeah, I agree..

But if you need a new one because yours is broken, this one would look very nice on a dark wooden desk :)

Looks kinda cool, all feng shui and stuff. And it just so happens I need a new keyboard. I think I’ll go buy a nice bamboo one.

The design is good, although in my personal opinion, i doubt the sturdiness of the product because it is made out of bamboo. FYI bamboo quality is lessen if being harvest less than 5 years.

Looks to me like there’s almost as much plastic as there is Bamboo!
