But, here&#039;s a little tidbit.  Most large scale turbines are designed with featherable blades and rotor locks.  During storms and high wind, they automatically feather (flatten the blades) so the turbine won&#039;t spin too fast, and set the rotor locks.

This one didn&#039;t, and I&#039;d be all over the manufacturer to find out why the hell it didn&#039;t.  I can&#039;t tell the size of the turbine there, I&#039;m guessing it was industrial-sized (ala, 10-15&#039; blades), and there is no excuse for something that size NOT to auto-shutdown during high rotation.</description>
