Mark, why the “snakepit” of public domain? It’s not as if the publishing community as it stands now does much to promote the VAST number of works that it holds copyright to; only those that are profitable. Personally, I think we could use a shorter copyright limit, and hasten the time to public domain. Then, whether through e-books or POD, each individual can promote their favored narratives.

Yes, I realize I’m being naive. But I still don’t understand the pejorative. Thanks!

I have read many books from Project Gutenberg but I never knew that volunteers can get into editing without hassels… I would surely get my account asap

Thanks for the heads up, Mark! I love any reason given me to read more books. I can also disappear into a bookstore for hours on end (probably days if they didn’t kick me out at closing time). My husband and I actually go on dates to the bookstore, which has gotten us some strange looks from friends and family.
