Underwater Digital Camera Diving Mask

I spent some of my formative years living in the U.S. Virgin Islands and was probably in the water snorkeling more than I was in school. There’s nothing like getting under water surrounded by yellow tangs, angel fish, and the occasional barracuda.

The diver geek in me gurgled in delight when I found this item- the Underwater Mask with Digital Camera. It makes a ton of sense to pair a camera and your mask, think of it as an underwater helmet cam.

The mask comes in two flavors- a 3.1MP version that can handle depths of 5 meters and a 5MP that can go down to 30 meters. It runs on 2 AAA batteries and kicks out photos via USB. Like most digital cameras it also shoots video, though I wouldn’t put too much stock in it being high quality.

It looks like it won’t be available for sale until sometime in the Spring. Liquid Image is currently taking wholesale orders and will be shipping the first batch out in March, right in time for Spring Break. Check their sales page in a few months to find where you can pick one up.

The gadget looks very good. Though I am not a under-water enthusiast, I think if I ever get hold to it I would wear it when going out in rains (and getting wet) where my current camera would not be suitable
