HOW TO: build a cheap solar heater

November 26, 2007 by Geeks are Sexy | 5 comments

Here’s a quick and easy way to build a cheap solar heater that will, according to the following video, save you around $35 per month on your electricity bill during winter time.

Required material:

  • A Foam board
  • Enough pennies to cover the board
  • Black Spray paint
  • A piece of plexiglass

When assembled, the heater should be set up next to a window that gets a lot of sunlight. Apparently, the device could bring the temperature of the room where it’s installed up around 10 degrees.

That is a nice invention of a cheap solar heater one that most could do with a few hours work. Most people have no idea just how much energy is produced by the sun.

If the goverment ever figures out a way to profit from it maybe we will quit being so reliant on fossil fuels.

pennys are made of aluminum now not copper. if they were made of copper they would be worth far more than 1 cent.

True.. but old pennies are made of copper… and yes, they’re worth more than 1 cent. :)

I’ve got 50 pounds of ‘em laying in a bucket in my basement.

Pennys are made of copper and zinc. The aluminum penny was born and died in 1974 without ever reaching circulation.
