The majority of users who I have found have no problems are the ones which don't buy from any of the main retailers, dell, pc world etc who fill up the machines with so much crap and bloatware.

I built my pc and purchased vista home premium to run on it. Stand alone, with no trialware crap, no anti-virus (I installed AVG instead) and it's not been a problem.

All the people who have problems are supplied by money hungry, second rate suppliers.

I've got a brand new Vista desktop PC. 4Gb RAM, 512mb graphics card, Intel Core 2 Duo processor (stupid fast) and still Vista kills my system. It's just too hardware hungry and and far too fragile a system. It's amusing to me that it trys really hard to incorporate features that Macs have had for years and still hasn't been able to get them right.

Conversely I just upgraded to Leopard on my Macs (MacBook Pro, Mac Pro, Mac Mini & Macbook, yes, I have a bit of a collection) and Leopard has done everything it was supposed to without causing any problems with the hardware. Couple this with the superior stability of the Mac platform (I've never had one crap out on me mid-project no matter what I've been doing) and it's easy to see why people are getting annoyed with Vista.

My experience with Vista isn't isolated either, I've got a lot of friends who are still on PC systems (3 of whom purchased PCs with Vista installed from the factory) and every single one of them has had problems they never ran into with XP. Sigh. One day I'll force them to sit down and try a Mac.

The ads are funny. That's it. That's all they are meant to do. It doesn't show or claim anything that isn't true and it sure doesn't overstate the Mac advantages. Hell, they even say nice things about PCs! But there will always be a few who take offense over things like that. I say just enjoy the ads for the funny little skits they are.

My sister, who works in tech support, hates Vista – she claims that it bogs down the laptops that people bring in for repair. I guess that’s fair, though. I wouldn’t want to run it on much less than what I’ve got it on now.

I'm running Vista on a monster home system I built for my son and it's a brilliant operating system. It runs flawlessly, but we didn't try to put a Ferrari skin on a Kia – we built a strong system with a high-end video card, tons of RAM and a Terabyte SATA HDD.

That said, don't think I'm a slave to Microsoft. I'm running Leopard on my 15" MacBookPro and absolutely love it. One kudos for Apple is that it made my system FASTER, not slower. This is a lesson that Microsoft might want to learn.

As for Apple's ads… they're simply kicking the horse while its down. Microsoft marketing must be one of the worst in the industry and they absolutely fail to build excitement. It's their arrogance that is going to hurt them in the long run.

A few years ago, I didn't have anything Apple in the home. Now I have 2 Shuffles, an AppleTV, a used eMac, and the MacBookPro. Microsoft may want to take note of that!
